Join ceramicist Belle Proffitt in this weekend workshop to explore the expressive potential of porcelain and learn how to make fresh and lively slabs to create exciting and dynamic pieces.

This weekend workshop will demonstrate the versatility and uniqueness of porcelain as a hand-building material. You will hone your hand-building skills and learn the techniques required to work effectively with porcelain.

On the first day, you will make your own stamps and rollers using a variety of techniques, which you will use to impress into the clay. You will experiment with porcelain’s ability to stretch and ways to capture a sense of energy and movement into your impressed slabs. Then, you will think about form and learn how to piece the slabs of clay together to make lively functional and/or more sculptural pieces.

Working with porcelain in this way requires a balance of technical skills and playfulness. You will learn the best techniques of hand-building with porcelain, whilst being given permission to be bold and experimental.
