Join our resident upholsterer and textiles maker Ruth Martin for a two-day creative workshop to make your own hand-stitched gathered lampshade.

Using a carefully selected range of gorgeous fabrics, and all the materials you need for a professional finish, we will guide you step by step in creating your own gathered shade. Throughout the session, you will learn the stitches and techniques that will give you the confidence to make further shades at home and experiment with your own creative designs. Techniques include binding the frame; gathering the fabric; applying fabric and lining to the frame; and adding trim for a professional finish.

While you are stitching, Ruth will talk about creative lampshade design and the benefits of therapeutic sewing. By chatting with the group, you will be inspired and encouraged to explore your own ideas on your crafting journey. By the end of the workshop, you will proudly take home your very own beautifully crafted gathered shade along with the skills and confidence to make more independently.

Whether you have explored crafts before or are new to creative endeavours, this workshop promises to be an enjoyable and satisfying way to unlock a new outlet for your creativity.
