Join this one day plate throwing workshop to learn how to throw plates using traditional techniques.
This workshop will focus on the fundamentals of creating well-balanced plates, from centering and pulling, to shaping and finishing. If you would like to explore the challenge of plate throwing, this workshop is for you.
meet your tutor
Brian Chan has been working as a ceramicist for over 16 years. He is originally from Hong Kong, where he studied with The Pottery Workshop, he moved to UK in 2021.
Brian works with both hand-building and throwing techniques. He has a strong interest in good colours and is best known for his marbled ceramics, using blends of pigmented clay to produce highly coloured marble finishes for a range of ceramics.
Brian has a growing interest in ceramics sculpture, inspired by human torsos and animals, sometimes blending them in a single form.
He exhibited his marbled ceramics in Hong Kong The Pottery Workshop in January 2020 and sculpture pieces at the Stroud Museum in the Park in April 2023. He will exhibit his sculpture pieces and paintings in Bristol 1904 Arts in early May 2025.

You are welcome to bring a lidded bottle of water with you but we kindly ask that you do not bring food into the studio.
