Join fashion textile designer Jocasta Bullock in this day workshop to learn how to design a repeated pattern by hand.

Jocasta will take you step-by-step through the processes she uses in her practice to create original, interesting and seamless designs. If you are an artist or illustrator and have ever wondered how your artwork would look in a repeated pattern on a fabric, wallpaper or gift wrap, or just want to learn the art of textile design, this day workshop is for you.

You will start with a look at how patterns in textiles have historically been formatted and why then look at the many ways you can repeat a pattern. You will then move on to constructing a simple block repeat using drawings or mark making, then try a half drop pattern.

Once you have formatted your repeatable unit, you will trace off and work in detail and colour if required. You can then use this repeat pattern in further projects such as lino cutting or silk screen printing to print a seamless pattern. It can also be imported to the computer to create a digital file to be used to order bespoke fabric, wallpaper and other fashion or textile items.
