This portraiture course is designed around a live model holding the same pose for the duration of the session. This long pose will allow students the chance to explore the many different aspects of their drawings and create fully realised compositions.

During the course we will look at creating depth and space, facial anatomy, developing expressions, creating textures and rendering clothes. Our aim will be to create an impression of our sitter which is sensitive to their appearance, expressions and the calm mood of the drawing studio.

This course is suitable for beginners, tutor Francis Martin will be on hand to offer guidance and encouragement.

MEET YOUR TUTOR

Francis Martin’s work explores the light emulating effects of charcoal graphite and oil paint. Working from life and before the motif he aims to convey a personal response to his environment and the world around him. As a result his practice encompasses a broad variety of ideas and subject matter, including portraiture, landscape, life-drawing, still life and interiors.

Graduating with a BA in Fine art Practice and theory from Winchester school of art in 2009, Francis went on to study on a postgraduate Scholarship at the Royal Drawing School. He exhibits widely and has undertaken residencies in the UK and Italy.
