Join designer maker Lauren Holloway on this day workshop to get to know your way around the sewing machine.

In this workshop Lauren will teach you how to thread up your sewing machine and be shown key sewing skills, You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine to help you get to know it better. You will learn how to create different stitches, insert a zip, box corners and make and join pieces of a simple pattern. You will spend the day learning how to make a variety of projects to take home using a selection of fabrics provided, including a drawstring bag and a zipped pouch.

Over the course of the day you will learn:

- Threading and using a domestic sewing machine 

- General sewing techniques 

- Cutting fabric from a simple pattern 

- Edge stitching 

- Sewing a zipper 

- Boxing corners 

- Useful troubleshooting tips and tricks 

- Achieving a professional finish

You will end the day feeling satisfied with your achievements and more confident using a sewing machine. You will have some personal, handsewn projects to be proud of.

You are welcome to bring a lidded bottle of water with you but we kindly ask that you do not bring food into the studio.

Who is this workshop for?
Beginners and those who would like a refresher.

What you will need:
All materials and tools will be provided. Fabric will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish too.

Sewing machines can be provided, but we recommend you bring your own sewing machine if you have one - please bring a standard foot and zipper foot.

Sewing tutor Lauren Holloway offers a range of sewing & dressmaking workshops for both adults and children from beginner to intermediate level where participants can learn the basics of using a domestic sewing machine, brush up on existing sewing skills or develop new techniques to improve their craft.

Lauren has a relaxed, patient and friendly approach in her teaching. Her workshops are a place to learn but also have fun in the process. Creating a warm, safe and encouraging space is very important, where no question is too silly to ask!

Her aim is that students feel inspired for future projects and continued learning in addition to taking home their own beautiful handmade items to be proud of.
