Georgie’s visually striking thrown vessels and bowls are decorated with bold graphic motifs created using the technique of paper resist. Cutting individual pieces of paper by hand, she builds up her designs on leather hard clay, before brushing on colour in multiple thin layers to build up a solid, matte surface. The paper is then peeled off before firing. This way of working presents Georgie with constraints and challenges she enjoys and means no two pieces are the same. After the final firing pieces are sanded to create a smooth, tactile finish.

Georgie studied ceramics at Harrow (University of Westminster) in the 1990s and then set up a studio in North London. She now works from a garden studio in the beautiful Surrey Hills.
